The Millennials Kyoto
The Millennials Kyoto puts guests in enclosed sleeping pods arranged in rows along shared corridors. Each pod holds a bed that adjusts, a screen, a curtain rather than a door, and a locker outside it. This is the operator's Kyoto address, one of several houses under the same name, and the sleeping places here are true capsules.
Shared areas include a lounge with long tables and power, a kitchen for guests, washing machines and a bathroom block with showers. Coffee is served in the morning. Desks are available through the day. The reception sits on the same floor as the lounge, so the building has a single social level.
The house is on Kawaramachi in central Kyoto, near Sanjo and the covered shopping arcades. The Kamo river is a short walk east and Nishiki market lies to the west. Bus routes pass the door and a subway station is close, which puts most of the old centre within reach on foot.

Global Cabin Tokyo Suidobashi offers compact cabins rather than open capsule shelves: each has a low door, a bed, a small hanging space and a light. The cabins stand in a row along a corridor. Sleeping floors are divided by gender, as the operator sets out. The house belongs to a chain, and this is one of its Tokyo addresses.
A communal bath occupies part of the building, with a washing area and a dressing room beside it. There is a lounge with drinks, a laundry and a luggage room. Towels and other amenities are laid out near the entrance to the bath, which keeps set hours published by the house.
Suidobashi lies in Chiyoda ward, on the north side of central Tokyo, beside the Kanda river. The station is a few minutes on foot. Jinbocho, with its second-hand bookshops, is to the south, and Ochanomizu with its instrument shops a short walk to the east.

CityHub Amsterdam
CityHub Amsterdam is neither a Japanese capsule house nor a hotel of ordinary rooms. Guests sleep in what the operator calls hubs: enclosed timber units for one or two people, set in rows inside a large hall, each with a bed, storage and light the guest controls. Bathrooms are shared and stand along the walls of the same hall.
The hall holds a bar that runs through the day, seating, a counter for hot drinks and lockers. Entry and lighting are handled by a wristband issued at arrival. Showers and washrooms are grouped in blocks rather than attached to the units, which is what separates this house from a hotel of rooms.
The building is in Amsterdam-West, off the Overtoom, close to the Vondelpark and to the streets of Oud-West. Trams run to the centre from the corner. The Kinkerstraat shops are a few minutes on foot, and the museums lie on the far side of the park.

Pod Times Square
Pod Times Square is a tower of very small repeating rooms; these are not capsules. Each has its own door, a private or shared bathroom, and either a window bed or a bunk arrangement. The address is on West Forty-second Street, west of Times Square, in the theatre district of Manhattan. Ninth Avenue and its restaurants lie a block away. The Hudson river and the piers are a short walk west, and the bus terminal stands to the south of the door.
